Meetings

Meetings are held as needed, at such times as the board determines necessary to fulfill required duties.

Members

Five members are appointed by the mayor and council to include: Fire prevention inspector or fire marshal or someone with expertise in a closely related fire protection systems field. Architect Builder or superintendent of building construction Electrical contractor Mechanical contractor, plumbing contractor or a master or journeyman plumber

Each member must have at least five years experience in his/her area, but may be practicing or retired. Members serve five-year terms. There is currently two vacancies.

About the Board

This board hears all appeals from decisions of the chief building official or the chief of fire prevention. The procedure for such appeals is outlined in the city's building and fire prevention codes. The board may also prepare, once a year, a report to the mayor and council containing its recommendations regarding any changes which should be made in the building and fire prevention codes. The mechanical or plumbing contractor shall sit for all appeals related to building code citations and the fire prevention inspector or fire marshal shall sit for all appeals related to fire prevention code citations.
