Permits
Listed below are permits related to the Street Department.
- Access
If a driveway is on an Arterial street an Access permit must be obtained before any driveway replacement or new construction can be done. This permit can be approved only by the Director or Assistant of Public Works and Transportation. Call 271-4848 for more information of Access permits. - Construction
A permit must be issued before any sidewalk replacement or new construction can be done. This also includes driveway replacement and new construction. Call 271-4848 for more information of Construction permits. - Hauling
The hauling permit must be obtained anytime more than one (1) dump truck load of dirt or gravel is going to be hauled to a specific location. An inspector must select and inspect the route the trucks will use before any permit will be issued. Call 271-4848 for more information of Access permits. - Oversized Loads
A permit must be obtained anytime an oversized load is going to a specific location in the City. An inspector must select and inspect the route the trucks will use before any permit will be issued. Call 271-4848 for more information of Access permits. - Special
A Special permit must be obtained before any activity not otherwise covered by a permit can be done within the Street right of way. Information on Special permits can be obtained by calling 816-271-4848. - Street Closures
No person shall close a street or sidewalk, or portion thereof, without first obtaining a permit. Any person seeking such a permit shall file an application, on forms provided. A nonrefundable fee of $25.00 shall be remitted with the application at the time of filing. Street or Sidewalk closing permits may be issued in accordance with the following categories and standards.- Street or sidewalk closing permits related to construction. The Director or Assistant Director or Public Works and Transportation shall issue all street or sidewalk closing permits related to construction and shall ensure that the fire chief and police chief are promptly notified of the same. The Director or Assistant Director or Public Works and Transportation shall use his or her discretion in issuing said permits.
- Street or sidewalk closing permits related to special events: The Director or Assistant Director or Public Works and Transportation shall issue all street or sidewalk closing permits related to special events. Such permits shall be governed by the provisions of Sections 25-371 A(Code 1969, para. 19-1 (a): G. O. 1537, 7-29-97).
- Trees
Before trimming trees within the Street Right-of-way, you must first obtain a permit. Prior to issuing a permit, you must call the Street Department at 271-4848. This must be done 24 hours prior to the date of the trimming.An inspector will look at the site to check for any problems which might occur, such as wires or traffic problems.
If traffic problems could exist, you may be required to closed the street. (See Street Closures). If this is the case, you will also need a permit to close the street.
If all the criteria are met, you will be issued a permit. The permit can be paid for and obtained at the Street Department Offices at 2316 south 3rd Street.
- Utility Cuts
A permit must be issued to any utility such as, Water, Gas, Light and Power, or Cable before any utility cut repairs can be made. This permit is issued at the Street Department Office at 2316 South 3rd street.
The Utility cut inspector inspects the cut during and after repairs are made. The utility company must prepare the cut for re-patching with concrete or asphalt. Preparation includes proper back-filling of soil and sawing of the pavement around the cut.
The City has the cut patched by the utility cut contractor. The utility cut contractor is a contractor who is hired by the City to patch all Utility cuts, less than 100 square feet. The cut has a final inspection by the Utility cut inspector before it is released.
