Emergency Preparedness
Severe Weather Reminders
Don't Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today!
With the unpredictable weather patterns we experience in the Midwest, it makes sense to
make a plan with
your community, your family, and for your pets. Plan how to stay safe
and communicate during the disasters that can affect your community.
The Midwest comes with the possibility of severe weather in the form
of snow, ice or thunder storms, floods, high winds, or a combination of
any of the above. Make sure your home and family are ready to respond by
being aware and making a plan. The following links have useful
information to help you prepare.
Epidemiological Surveillance
Epidemiologists search for the causes and factors that influence the
occurrence of diseases or other health-related events in the population.
Public health can be directly influenced by the awareness of the
community to potential health threats and knowledge about prevention
methods, symptoms, and controls.
The Center for Disease Control and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will issue
health alerts
on related events. Other links from that site provide information about
specific biological, chemical and nuclear terrorism agents and
preparedness techniques for the general public, medical and public
health professionals, laboratory professionals and emergency response
planners.
Not all disease threats come from terrorist activity. The health
department has experts in the control, prevention, and treatment of
these and other contagious diseases.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services provides
Health Alerts, Advisories and Updates about the control, treatment, and updated spread of communicable diseases throughout the state on a weekly basis.
