
Food Establishments
Per
Chapter 17, Article IV, Sections 17-106
to 17-110, in the St. Joseph Code of Ordinances, “each food
service establishment/retail food store within the corporate limits
of the city shall be required to obtain and post in view of the public
a city food and beverage permit in order to operate a food service
establishment/retail food store, and each permit shall be renewed
on or before July 1 of each year. You may contact the Health

to set up an initial inspection.

This establishment is also required to obtain a business license and fire inspection permit. If it is also selling liquor, cigarettes, or has an alarm system, additional permits may be required. Existing health permits will be sent a renewal notice each year on or around May 1st and are due on or before June 30th. Instructions will also accompany each renewal. If there are any changes to the operations of the business, you must contact the Customer Assistance Center. This includes change of site address, change of corporate status/ownership, change of managing officer, etc.

Tattooing
Per Chapter 17, Article IV, Sections
17-221 to 17-254, in the St. Joseph Code of Ordinances, an annual
permit and inspection must be obtained by each establishment and artist
involved in the practice of tattooing. You may contact the Health
